Laker-editorial

Summer is in full swing and I hope you are enjoying and experiencing beautiful Nova Scotia.  Please be careful in your travels, http://novascotia.ca/tran/roadsafety/roadsafety.asp wherever you are travelling this summer.

The bridge is out at Highway 2 and the Fall River Rd. and is expected to be completed by August 26. The weather has been cooperating so HRM reports that the project is on schedule. I am enjoying my exercise walking from Sobeys to my office and chatting with other residents along the way. As residents, we are all experiencing challenges with this detour, we can look forward to the completion at the end of August and the improved bridge and lane work for years to come.

More Nova Scotians to get Hip, Knee Replacements

The Nova Scotia Government has invested $1.9 million to help 160 more Nova Scotians to get orthopedic surgery.

The investment brings the total funding for reducing orthopedic wait times this year to $8.1 million for more than 800 additional procedures and system improvements. Since 2013, these new investments have supported an additional 2,200 surgeries.

Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine says reducing wait times for orthopedic surgery is a priority. He says this investment will get surgeries done for the people who have been waiting the longest and will eventually shorten the wait list overall.

In addition to this investment, the redevelopment of the QEII health Sciences Centre includes changes in how and where surgeries are performed to improve efficiency and reduce wait times.  Information about wait times for orthopedic surgery and other services is available at waittimes.novascotia.ca.

Please…Slow Down—We Love our Children

The Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank constituency office has joined with HRM Councillor, Barry Dalrymple, to provide signs to residents to remind drivers to slow down in our neighbourhoods. You can call our office, 902-576-3411, to request a sign and pick it up at my office at 1265 Fall River Rd.  Barry also has signs available at Barry.Dalrymple@halifax.ca.

The municipality requests that we keep them on private property. Thank you for slowing down and helping to keep our communities safe!
