Christmas Express getting big support

FALL RIVER: Sobeys in Fall River is giving a big boost to the Lions Christmas Express (LCE) food drive.

The store has chosen the food bank charity as its recipient of support from the local stores Star of Christmas Food Bank Drive. It’s in its ninth year with all Sobeys stores.

At the Fall River store, a shelf is located near the cash registers with bags of food that can be purchased for $5 or $10 and then donated to the Lions Christmas Express or customers can buy a $2 star. All proceeds from those sales go to the LCE to help those out in the community.

In 2016, the LCE helped out close to 100 families in the Grand Lake to Waverley areas.

“Food security is an important issue for many Atlantic Canadians, so we are proud at Sobeys to help ensure families are always able to eat,” said Paul MacLeod, VP Atlantic Store Operations. “The Star of Christmas Food Bank Drive is one of our largest campaigns in our region to help local food banks fill their shelves.”

Along with purchasing the $2 stars customers can also purchase a pre-filled Hampers For Hope or donate a non-perishable food item at their local Sobeys, Foodland and participating Co-ops, Needs and Sobeys express stores.

Contact your local store manager to see what is happening in your community with this campaign.
