Dear friends,

A big thank you to everyone who came out to attend our Family Skate at the Sackville Arena on Heritage Day. More than 300 residents enjoyed the light exercise, chili, hot chocolate and treats. Special thanks to Charlene Nolan and the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council for providing the refreshments. It was great to see old and new faces on the ice and we look forward to hosting a skate again next year!

Last month the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced the successful applicants for Canada’s five superclusters. Superclusters are dense areas of business activity and innovation that energize economies, drive growth and create thousands of middle-class jobs.

The government of Canada has invested close to a billion dollars in these superclusters and I was pleased to hear that Atlantic Canada’s Ocean Supercluster has successfully secured a top 5 spot! This will bring 3000 jobs and contribute $14 billion to the economy. The Ocean Supercluster will use innovation to improve competitiveness in Canada’s ocean-based industries, including fisheries, oil and gas, and clean energy. Certainly a welcomed and exciting investment to our region!

I am also pleased to share the growing services of East Hants Community Rider. My staff was excited to learn that their services extend to the Fall River and Waverley area and provide an excellent rural transportation option for our constituents. If you or friends need a ride to medical appointments, work, groceries or social events, just call 902-883-4716 a day in advance and you could have low-cost, safe and reliable transportation.

Last month I had another meeting with the Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook Youth Council. These young people have been working hard to organize a town hall on mental health for this April. I was very impressed by their research and hard work as they prepare for their first event. So I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to our next town hall!

It will be a chance to discuss mental health access and funding with a panel of experts, so please come out and participate!

As always, if you would like to hear more about the work I do both in Ottawa and in the riding , please tune in to 105.9 Seaside FM and 97.5 FM Community Radio in Sackville every Thursday for updates!

Sincerely,

Darrell J. Samson, M.P.
