FALL RIVER: A quick response by firefighters from Station 45 in Fall River to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the Sobeys prevented other vehicles parked nearby from becoming touched.

Halifax District RCMP media spokesman Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said just before 4 p.m. on Nov. 15, RCMP officers received a 911 call of a vehicle on fire. The fire had shoppers watching the excitement that was taking place.

“The vehicle was reportedly close to other vehicles and approximately 60 feet from the business,” said Cpl. Hutchinson on Nov. 16. “Someone attempted to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.”

He said there were no injuries suffered in the fire.

Witnesses said the owner of the vehicle had gone into Sobeys to shop and came out to the car on fire.

Within minutes of the call, fire crews with the Fall River fire station had the fire extinguished. Black smoke had filled the air from the fire until that point. The exact damage to the vehicle is unknown.

It’s unknown what led to the fire.
