WAVERLEY: Five Fall River and area highland dancers will get to represent their province at an international competition next month in Florida.

Kaitlyn Matheson of Windsor Junction; Olivia Woolaver of Beaver Bank; Madison Hunt of Windsor Junction; Emily Matheson of Fall River; and Grace McFeters of Fall River, will join their fellow dancers from Celtic Rhythm Highland Dancing at Disney World in Florida in October.

The dancers have been holding a variety of fundraisers to help get them there, including a recently held yard sale and performance at the Village Green in Waverley, where The Laker caught up with the local dancers.

“I’m really excited to have this opportunity,” said Woolaver, who said they’re also doing a couple BBQ fundraisers. “We will get to see people from across the world compete in dance.”

She was hopeful of a good result at the competition.

Hunt said the competition, which will see the group take part in the parade to Disney World, will be a lot fun.

“I will get to spend a lot of time with my dance friends,” said Hunt.

The group will be competing with dance schools across the world in choreography and traditional dance routines.

Emily Matheson said she’s been practicing hard as the day’s countdown to the competition in Disney World.

“I’m really excited to go and show my love of highland dancing,” she said. “I think a lot of people will enjoy watching us dancing. I also get time to spend with my friends.”

She hopes there will be good crowds on hand.

McFeters thinks the dancers will have a great experience.

“I think we’re going to get to do a lot of really cool things there,” said McFeters. “I want to have a lot of fun while dancing, something I love to do.

“I will be able to tell my friends that I danced at Disney World.”
