Lady Dragons blank Phoenix in hockey

LOWER SACKVILLE: Behind the strong performance between the pipes from Savannah Wheatley, the Lockview High Dragons girls hockey team skated to a 3-0 victory on Nov. 14 at the Sackville Arena.

Wheatley, who tended net for the NSFMHL Pro Cresting Penguins last year, stopped all the shots she faced from the Citadel High Phoenix including a pair of shots on the power-play.

Meanwhile, Morgan Mackenzie and Olivia Woolaver each scored once and assisted on another to pace the offence for the Fall River-based Dragons team.

Jill Wood had the other tally for Lockview. Wood is an affiliate player with the team.

Wood’s and MacKenzie’s goals came in a 25 second span for Lockview.

Lockview was to participate with other teams on the Nov. 16-18 weekend in the Auburn High school girls hockey tournament.

The Dragons record sits in fourth in the Metro High School girls hockey league Tier 1 division with a 2-3 (won-loss) record after five games played.

Halifax West, with Fletchers Lake’s Syd Kennedy on it’s roster, is in first place at 5-0. They have scored 28 goals while surrendering just four. Kennedy has three goals and seven assists in four games played.
