WAVERLEY: On Friday evening, July 28, the Waverley Legion on Rocky Lake Drive held its service membership awards night. Close to 60 people attended the evening’s festivities.

The event started with a meet and greet for members, followed by a roast beef dinner, prepared by the CWL and served by the cadets, then the presentation of awards.

The executive table was piped into the room by Barb Stewart.

Guest speaker for the evening was member president, Ken Mallett, who spoke about volunteering and giving of time; he then acknowledged and thanked the Legion’s volunteers for giving their time.

The majority of awards were given in recognition for years of service as well as to the Ladies Auxiliary.

While many received acknowledgement for service and support, recognition was also given to Diane Moore and Mildred Casey for 40 and 55 years of membership to the Ladies Auxiliary.

Other special awards were presented to Anne Steele — Presidents Award; Sheila Pickrem received awards for Membership and Legionnaire of the Year; Gerald Burgess for 2nd Vice; and Cheryl Sinnott received the Appreciation Award.

Among those in attendance were special MLA Bill Horne and his wife Pam.

One other special visitor was in attendance — Gerry Smith, who served in both WWII and the Korean War.
