Man seriously injured in Wellington motorcycle crash

Crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 20

WELLINGTON: A man was airlifted to the QEII hospital in Halifax following a mid-afternoon motor vehicle collision in Wellington.

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Jen Clarke said police received a 911 call at 3:02 p.m. about a motorcylce crashing into the ditch at Kelly Road and Highway 2, just past Laurie Park heading towards Fall River.

Cpl. Clarke had few details to provide as of 3:30 p.m. She said the cause of the incident is under investigation. In a tweet at 3:50 p.m., Halifax Fire said Hwy 2/Kelly Road area would be shut down until further notice.

The road between Kelly Road and Brookhill Estates re-opened at 9 p.m., the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal said in a tweet.

According to a witness–a student–the door on the school bus had just begun to open at the bus stop by the community mailboxes when the motorcycle crash occurred.

The witness said the scene was bad. He ran home to get his father, but other people were already aiding the injured man.

Police, EHS, and Station 45 Fall River were paged out to the scene. Firefighters from Station 41 Waverley; Station 42 Wellington; and Station 43 Grand Lake also attended the scene.
