OAKFIELD: Police are investigating a suspicious early morning fire on July 5 that destroyed a vehicle at residence in Oakfield.

Cpl. Dal Hutchinson with Halifax District RCMP said police responded to a 911 call at a residence on Highway 2 in Oakfield, near Acorn Drive, that a vehicle—a purple 2013 Dodge Dart—was on fire. The call came in just prior to 2 a.m.

Station 42 (Wellington), Station 43 (Grand Lake) and Enfield Fire responded to the call. When crews arrived the flames had engulfed the car. Enfield fire was later stood down before getting to the scene.

A post about the fire has been shared widely on social media as the owner and friends search for who set the car on fire.

Cpl. Hutchinson said the investigation into the matter is continuing.

He said anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact Halifax District RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), text TIP202 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.

Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash reward from $50 -$2,000.
