The only thing left is the cinder block that the seven sections of wharf on Lock 4 off Fletcher Drive in Fall River were chained to. A community group was installing it, as they did others along the Shubie Canal lock system. The wharf is valued at $7,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP, who are aware of the theft. (Healey photo)

FLETCHERS LAKE: A newly installed wharf at Lock 4 off Fletcher Drive has gone missing.

Allan Billard said members of the community group that were installing the wharf were informed that all seven sections of the wharf, valued at $7,000, were stolen on the morning of July 30.

“It’s believed that somebody cut the chain and took all seven sections between Friday and Sunday,” said Billard.

He said he contacted N.S. Environment and N.S. Natural Resources to see if they removed the sections, but they were unaware it had the wharf been removed.

Billard said he spoke with RCMP on July 30.

“They suggested that there may be somebody on the lake who might have seen the theft and will investigate as access to the site is extremely limited, particularly for vehicles which would carry away such large sections,” said Billard.

He asked that if anyone saw anything between Friday and Sunday, July 27-29, or saw people removing the wharf to contact the police with that information.

Lock 4 is part of the Shubenacadie Canal system.
