Youth group raising awareness of food insecurity in N.S

FALL RIVER: It won’t quite be the Hunger Games, but the youth group at St. John’s United Church in Fall River will be fasting—all for a good cause.

The group will be participating in a 24-hour famine on May 3-4, gathering at the church from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday and fasting together.

This year the youth have chosen to raise funds for Feed Nova Scotia in an effort to raise awareness about food insecurity in Nova Scotia communities. They are raising funds through sponsors prior to the event.

As well, on Saturday May 4, noon – 2:30 they will also host a Fill A Pick-Up Truck (or two) food drive in the St. John’s United Church parking lot.

During the weekend the youth will engage in discussion and exercises to raise awareness about food insecurity and poverty.
