FALL RIVER: A 19-year-old man from Fall River has pleaded not guilty to a variety of weapons-related charges stemming from an incident in Dartmouth on June 28 shortly after midnight.

Tyus Jay John Lee McSween was arrested after Halifax Regional Police officers heard gun shots in the area of Lahey Road and Catherine Street. Officers witnessed three males running.

According to HRP, they searched the area, arrested two males separately and found a gun. No injuries were reported but police did locate a vehicle believed to have been damaged by gunfire.

McSween faces five charges involving a .22-calibre semi-automatic pistol, including careless use of a firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; possession of a prohibited firearm without holding a registration certificate; possession of a firearm for which he did not have a licence; and unauthorized possession of a loaded prohibited firearm.

He’s also charged with resisting arrest.

McSween appeared in Dartmouth provincial court via video-link from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.

A two-day trial in November has been booked for McSween, who has not applied for bail.
