LOWER SACKVILLE: Three local boxers from the Beaver Bank area are among a group of nine from Citadel Boxing off to a pair of competitions.

Heading off to Boras, Sweden for the Golden Girls Tournament, running Feb. 2 to 4, are Alyssa Rouleau and Sierra Eshouzadeh, both from the Beaver Bank area; Natalie Fagan from Cape Breton/Dartmouth area; and Shayna Halliday.

The Golden Girls tournament is the largest all-women’s tournament in the world.

Our girls have been heavily training for this tournament and we look forward to seeing their progress,” said Stephanie Walker from Lower Sackville-based Citadel Boxing.

Unfortunately, due to flight cancellations and delays as a result of the weather on Jan. 30 from the Nor’easter, the girls flight was cancelled and thus they had to withdraw from the competition.

On the boys side, Matt Rouleau of Beaver Bank along with Gabe Marshall; Alex Bulgaru; Julian Wilson; and Liam Dempster head to the Brampton Cup in Brampton, Ont., also scheduled for Feb. 2-4.

It’s an open tournament for males and females of all ages to attend. It is one of the largest tournaments in Canada.

“Our males have been in training and this is the first time for four them going to the Brampton Cup, while it’s Matt’s second time,” said Walker.
