Clarity sought on Grove Park lands

BEAVER BANK: HRM is being asked for some clarity regarding the Grove Park lands in Beaver Bank.

At regional council on July 17, Councillor Lisa Blackburn brought forward a motion asking for information from staff pertaining to the property, which remains empty at this time, but which HRM owns and had plans for some years ago.

“I’m hoping there is a little bit of clarity from the report,” said Blackburn. “I want to know the history and background of them.”

Blackburn said the history as she understands it the Grove family signed over the lands to the former Halifax County, with the purpose being for the lands to be developed as a park.

“Here we sit, 20-30 years later and nothing has been done,” she said. “So why is that the case? How did we get here? What is the background? If that was the intent of signing over the lands, I want to fulfill that.”
