Annual FRABA-sponsored Christmas tradition to be
livestreamed on The Laker’s FB page
FALL RIVER: Christmas will look a bit different in the COVID19 era, and that includes the traditional Fall River and Area Business Association Christmas Tree Lighting.
Usually the Tree Lighting takes place after the Lions Christmas Parade; however, this year there is no parade scheduled.
But organizers are at their Santa Elves best putting the finishing touches on the tree lighting this year, which will be held virtually. That means organizers are urging residents to stay away—yes that is correct.
“We want people to stay the blazes home, in the warmth of their own homes, cozied up in their pjs and to tune in on The Laker’s Facebook page to watch our Virtual Tree Lighting this year,” said Tree Lighting organizers Louise MacDonald.
The tree lighting will be livestreamed on The Laker Facebook page beginning at 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 28. The tree is set to be lit shortly after 6:15 p.m.
MacDonald said there will be performance from well-known Waverley resident and Canadian musician Dave Carroll, who will sing alongside the kids from Joyful Sounds (while socially distancing).
What else is planned for the virtual tree lighting, which is being sponsored and organized by members from the Fall River and Area Business Association?
“We have a one more surprise for people who will be tuned in to watch, but we aren’t going to say just yet what that surprise is,” said MacDonald with a coy look.
She did confirm that Santa’s schedulers in the North Pole have booked him in to appear at the virtual tree lighting to speak to all the wonderful children tuned in live. MacDonald also said that the traditional prize of an iPad will also be back, although exactly how the winner will be determined is being worked out.
MacDonald encouraged everyone to book their calendars, so they don’t miss the virtual tree lighting broadcasted live on The Laker’s Facebook page. The livestream will be carried out by Dagley Media from Lower Sackville.
“We’re excited to be able to partner with FRABA, and Dagley Media, and carry the tree lighting on our Facebook page live,” said The Laker News’ part-owner Pat Healey. “We wish we all could be together and celebrate the way we have in years past. But unfortunately, we can’t.
“So, we’re happy to keep the Christmas Spirit alive by livestreaming the tree lighting for everyone to watch from the comforts of their own homes.”
