SHUBENACADIE: Here’s a look at the calls for the final month of 2020 for local volunteer fire departments across East Hants and Stewiacke.
The basic call information is provided by the fire departments in Shubenacadie; Stewiacke; Kennetcook; Rawdon; Elmsdale; Enfield; Uniacke & District; Indian Brook; Milford; and Nine Mile River.

Shubenacadie Fire responded to 14 calls in December 2020, led by eight motor vehicle collisions, four of which were mutual aid calls.
They also had four alarm activations, one of which was a mutual aid call; one structure fire; and one power pole fire.
For Stewiacke Fire, they had a slow December reporting just five calls. This tally was led by two mutual aid calls to neighbouring departments for structure fires; one stand by at Station 38 Middle Musquodoboit hall; one car fire; and one smoke condition.
In Kennetcook, firefighters responded to four calls, with two of those being motor vehicle collisions.
The department also had calls for a woods rescue and chimney fire.
For Rawdon Fire, the firefighters there heard the tones on their cellphone and pager six times. This tally included three motor vehicle collisions; one power lines down; one mutual aid call; and one chimney fire.
Elmsdale Fire had 11 calls in the month of December, led by seven motor vehicle collisions. They also had two fire alarm activations, one flue fire: and one structure fire.
For Enfield Fire, they ended 2020 with a low seven calls. That tally saw them hear the “sound of their people” two times for motor vehicle collisions; twice for mutual aid calls to neighbouring departments; and two alarm activations.
The firefighters also had one structure fire call.
In Mount Uniacke, firefighters with Uniacke & District Volunteer Fire had their slowest month of 2020 with just six calls.
They had two vehicle fires; one CO2 Alarm call; a medical assist; one toaster fire; and one motor vehicle collision.
Indian Brook Fire responded to 15 calls for the month of December, led by seven mutual aid calls to neighbouring departments. The other calls were three motor vehicle collisions; one barn fire; two residential fire alarm activations; and two commercial fire alarms.
For Milford Fire, they responded to 16 calls for the month, with a dozen of those being mutual aid calls to neighbouring departments. This included nine mutual aid calls to Shubie Fire; two to HRM Fire; and one to Elmsdale Fire.
They also responded to four calls of their own in Milford.
On Dec. 8, Milford responded mutual aid to Shubenacadie for a silo fire; on Dec. 10 Milford was paged for an MVC on Hwy 2 in Milford; on Dec. 11 they attended an MVC on Hwy 102 near Exit 9, Milford.
On Dec. 12, Milford fire responded mutual aid to HRM for a structure fire in a barn. They were stood down en route. On Dec. 15, they were paged mutual aid to a barn fire in Shubie; then a residential fire alarm; and an MVC on Indian Road. On Dec. 16, Shubie requested Milford mutual aid to an MVC on Hwy 2 in Shubenacadie.
Milford responded to an MVC on Hwy 102 near Exit 9 on Dec. 21. They were paged mutual aid to Shubenacadie for an MVC on Crombe Road on Dec. 22; on Dec. 23, Milford was paged mutual aid to Elmsdale for an MVC on Hwy 102 near Elmsdale exit. On Dec. 24, Milford was paged twice mutual aid for a commercial fire alarm at the same location in Shubenacadie.
On Dec. 24, Milford responded to a Hwy 102 mvc near exit 9; on Christmas Day they were paged mutual aid to HRM for the structure fire at the Scout Camp in Elderbank; and on Dec. 30 they responded mutual aid to Shubenacadie for an MVC on Hwy 2.
Nine Mile River fire responded to two motor vehicle collisions for their calls in December.
