ENFIELD: Officials with East Hants RCMP are providing traffic advice to the motoring public.

S/Sgt. Mike Balmaceda said in information provided as part of the weekly From the Cruiser column using the zipper merge is advised.

“With ongoing highway construction, motorists are encouraged to use zipper merging in congested traffic,” said S/Sgt. Balmaceda.

He said:

Use both lanes until reaching the merge point.

Alternate vehicles one-by-one at the lane closure.

This approach reduces congestion, improves traffic flow, maximizes road space, and helps prevent aggressive lane changes.

“In heavy traffic, zipper merging is often more efficient than merging early when a lane ends,” added S/Sgt. Balmaceda.
