LANTZ: Young hockey players will take over the East Hants Sportsplex this winter as the Braeden Bannister Memorial U7 Jamboree returns for its fifth annual edition.
Organizers are preparing to welcome teams back to Lantz for another weekend of hockey, fun and community spirit, with registration set to open Oct. 19.
The annual jamboree to be held Feb. 27-28, 2027 continues a tradition of bringing young players together to enjoy the game while honouring the memory of Braeden Bannister, a local hockey player whose impact on the East Hants community continues to be felt.
Organizers say they are looking forward to welcoming familiar faces, as well as new associations that have expressed interest in travelling to Lantz to take part in this year’s event.
The jamboree is part of a broader legacy established in Braeden’s memory following his sudden passing in November 2019 at the age of 15.

Braeden was a dedicated student, athlete and volunteer firefighter who spent years playing with the East Hants Minor Hockey Association. He later joined the Hants East Rural High School Tigers hockey team and also played baseball with the East Hants Nationals.
His love of sports and willingness to help others helped inspire the Braeden Bannister Memorial Fund, which supports young people and community initiatives throughout East Hants.
The fund has helped children participate in sports and recreation, provided educational bursaries, supported local food banks and families in need, and contributed to projects that benefit the wider community.
The U7 jamboree brings that spirit of community to the ice, giving some of the area’s youngest hockey players an opportunity to develop their skills, build friendships and enjoy the excitement of playing in a tournament setting.
Teams interested in participating are encouraged to connect with their team or association manager for information about registration, team fees and game details.
Registration opens Oct. 19, with organizers looking forward to another memorable weekend at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz.
