YARMOUTH: People and businesses that rely on the Yarmouth ferry can continue to do so with an extension agreement signed by the Province and Bay Ferries Ltd.

The service between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor, Maine, will continue to operate in 2027 as it has been, from May to October.

The Department, in partnership with operator Bay Ferries, will explore options to secure a sustainable, long-term future for the service that strengthens connections, supports local economic growth and maximizes Nova Scotia’s investment for years to come.

“Knowing that the Yarmouth ferry will continue to operate uninterrupted next season is a success under difficult circumstances,” said Fred Tilley, Minister of Public Works.

“We know our job is not done, and we will continue to pursue options that will give the people and businesses that depend on the ferry service the certainly they deserve.”

A recent economic impact study confirmed the service delivers strong returns, generating benefits that extend to communities across Nova Scotia. These opportunities include new revenue streams for rural communities, increased economic activity for local businesses and broader employment and financial benefits.

The ferry service also advances the Province’s buy-local objectives by supporting Nova Scotia businesses.
