BURLINGTON, VT.: A Belnan hockey product will be one of the players to wear the captain’s “C” for an NCAA Division I hockey program this season.

The University of Vermont has announced its leadership group for the 2026-27 men’s hockey season, with Duncan Ramsay named one of two captains alongside Sebastian Törnqvist.

For Ramsay, the appointment represents a significant achievement as he enters his senior season with the Catamounts.

The six-foot-five defenceman from Belnan has been a regular in Vermont’s lineup throughout his collegiate career and now gets the opportunity to lead the program on and off the ice.

Ramsay has already appeared in 90 NCAA games over his first three seasons at Vermont, recording six assists. His best offensive season came in 2024-25, when he registered three assists in 32 games.

Last season, he played 32 games and finished with two assists.

He opened his senior season Saturday night as Vermont defeated Brock University 4-2 in the Catamounts’ season opener.

Ramsay was in the lineup and recorded two penalty minutes while helping Vermont begin the 2026-27 campaign with a victory.

Ramsay’s role has been primarily defensive throughout his UVM career. His 43 blocked shots last season were among the notable defensive contributions he made for the Catamounts, who finished 13-21-1 overall and 8-15-1 in Hockey East play.

The Belnan native arrived at Vermont after playing junior hockey with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL.

He appeared in 36 games for Chilliwack during the 2022-23 season before making the jump to NCAA hockey.

Now, heading into his final collegiate season, Ramsay will have an even bigger responsibility, wearing the “C” and helping lead the Catamounts through their 2026-27 campaign.

And for a player who grew up in Belnan, becoming captain of a Division I university hockey team is a pretty special accomplishment.
