MILFORD: With school returning, Const. Andrew Ouellette, School Safety Resource Officer with East Hants RCMP, would like to remind motorists to start their commute a little earlier this week.
He encourages all to pay extra attention throughout the school year due to the added bus traffic and increase of students on sidewalks and roads.
“There will be an increased police presence throughout East Hants as students return to school,” said Const. Ouellette.
“Officers will be enforcing speed limits in school zones and helping ensure traffic moves safely during school drop-off and pick-up times.
“We urge motorists to pay attention, obey all posted signs near schools and on school property, follow the designated direction of travel, and adhere to posted speed limits.”

He said school bus red light violations are always a safety concern.
“This is when a vehicle passes a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing,” said Const. Ouellette. “These happen far too frequently and are very dangerous.”
Please report any of these incidents to the Enfield or Rawdon RCMP Detachments, he added.
Const. Ouellette urged parents to please ensure your students are getting to and from their bus stops safely and that they follow the rules on the bus rides.Â
“If your child drives to school, be sure to remind them to slow down and pay attention,” he said.
