MacDonald-Miles earns top Cadets awards, promotion to PO1

FALL RIVER: A local Dartmouth Sea Cadet has earned a slew of awards from her cadet group, while also getting a promotion to a new designation.

Fall River resident Sarah MacDonald-Miles was announced as the 24 RCSCC Magnificent award winner for Top Drill Team Member and Most Improved Biathlon Team Member. She also was promoted to Petty Officer First Class during the awards announcement, held recently.

MacDonald-Miles recieved the Top Drill team member award because she really stepped up as a leader. She showed amazing dedication, enthusiasm and helped her team to learn and grow.

Petty Officer First Class MacDonald-Miles was also our Drill Team Commander this year.

“My favourite part of being the drill commander was seeing all the happy faces bright and early every Saturday morning,” she said. “They were always ready to practice what ever I threw at them.”

Biathlon is a sport that includes running and marksmanship together. It is a lot harder than you would think.

This year the 24 RCSCC awarded their Most Improved Biathlon Team Member to PO1 MacDonald-Miles. She improved her timings by 60 seconds this year. In these sorts of competitions seconds matter, so a whole minute is amazing progress!

To become a PO1 takes a lot of dedication and MacDonald-Miles embodies everything Magnificent stands for.
