SHUBENACADIE: Students at Shubenacadie District Elementary School held a special flag raising ceremony on an overcast Friday Oct. 2.

The school raised the Mi’kmaq flag in recognition of Mi’kmaq Heritage Month that is October.

Before the kids raised the flag, there was a short ceremony which included a smudge from Patsy Paul Martin, Chignecto-Central Regional School Board Facilitator of First Nations Education, and drumming from the Eastern Eagle Singers from nearby Sipekne’katik First Nation.
