ENFIELD: Members of the RCMP and the community gathered on Friday afternoon April 24 to pay respects to a local RCMP officer who was among the 22 victims of last weekend’s mass shooting.

The tribute was held at the Enfield RCMP detachment where a memorial continues to grow in honour of Const. Heidi Stevenson, the officer killed by the gunman, who we will not name.

Const. Stevenson was killed after the cruiser she was driving is reported to have collided with the gunman in his replica police car in Shubenacadie. She is said to have engaged him in shooting according to new information released by N.S. RCMP in their timeline information.

Officers from various departments in the Halifax and Colchester areas attended the service, which included a flypast of a helicopter, bagpiping and two minutes of silence.

It was a touching tribute and many in the community came and paid their respects to the fallen officer.

Officers then gathered in their police vehicles and went on one last ride, down Hwy 102 to Hwy 101, through Mount Uniacke and down to the spot where Const. Stevenson died at Hwy 2 and 224 in Shubenacadie.

Other family members of those lost also were at the spot paying their own respects to their loved ones, who were taken in the senseless tragedy.
