GRAND FALLS, N.B.: Nolan Boyd stopped 31 of 34 shots and all three shooters he faced in the shootout to propel his Grand Falls Rapids to a historic win on Dec. 30.

Boyd, of Fall River, thwarted the chances the Edmundston Blizzard had as he led his Rapids to the 4-3 Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MHL) shootout win.

Grand Falls scored once in each period, while the Blizzard rallied to tie it 3-3 forcing overtime, which solved nothing.

That resulted in a shootout taking place.

Grand Falls scored twice of their three shooters, while Boyd stopped all three Blizzard shooters for the big win.

Boyd was named the game’s first star in the victory. The Lockview High alum has picked up five of the seven straight victories.

However, the win was not without a significant loss for Grand Falls.

Isaac Dixon was hit hard during the game and has undergone surgery on his back on Dec. 31. The team is asking for fans to send their positive vibes and prayers to Dixon in his recovery.
