FALL RIVER: Two Crowes are better than one.
The UNB REDS women’s soccer team is naming Emma Crowe as the first member of its recruiting class of 2022.
The fullback/centre back, from Fall River, Nova Scotia, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the REDS ahead of the 2022 Atlantic University Sport season.
Emma is the sister of current REDS midfielder Olivia Crowe.
“We’re pleased that Emma chose UNB, and will team up with her sister Olivia to make this a family affair here in Fredericton,” said REDS head coach Jon Crossland. “We’re getting a leader and a student-athlete that will make an impact on our team, our athletics department and our community through not shying away from hard work, willingness to face challenges, and positive outlook.
“Emma has a confidence about herself and her abilities that will add to our team as we look to a successful 2022 and beyond with Emma in our program.”
Finishing her Grade 12 year at Lockview High School, Crowe boasts an impressive soccer resume that includes being a member of Lockview’s varsity girls’ team, Suburban Football Club teams, Team Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia’s Canada Games winter soccer program.
She’s been part of Atlantic club championship teams at the U13, U15 and U17 levels.
In 2019, Crowe was part of Nova Scotia’s U15 provincial championship team that competed at the national championship tournament, in Edmonton.
In 2021, she was a member of Suburban’s U17 side that won the provincial banner. That team scored 95 goals while holding opponents scoreless.
Crowe captained Suburban’s U15 and U17 teams.
In 2017 and 2018, she attended combines run by the Vancouver Whitecaps.
“I know the REDS women’s soccer program has a great reputation and history,” she said. “UNB really stood out to me as their Nursing program is one of the best in the country and I believe it will be a great place to grow and start my career.”
“I really wanted to be part of a school and soccer program with a good team environment and culture, and I believe UNB has programs that will help me reach my full potential, academically and athletically.”
In 2021, Crowe’s sister, Olivia, saw action in all 12 of the REDS regular season games. She scored once and registered eight shots on goal.
The younger Crowe wants to help bring an AUS title to UNB while improving as an individual.
“I’m excited to be able to add to the team on and off the field as I join UNB and the REDS in 2022,” she said. “I’m outgoing, organized, hard-working, and I love a good challenge. I’m a very coachable and versatile player. I have a very high forward pass completion rate, I’m comfortable playing out in possession, and I’m a solid one-on-one defender.”
“Emma has had a lot of success at the club and provincial level, and that championship experience will be valuable for our group as we work towards winning banners during Emma’s career at UNB.”
Crowe will study Nursing while attending UNB.
