ENFIELD: RCMP in East Hants had 204 calls for service between July 25 and Aug. 3, 2026.
The following are highlighted calls as provided by Const. Andrew Ouellette with East Hants RCMP.
SUMMER TRAFFIC
With summer traffic in full effect there was an increase in the amount of motor vehicle act offenses reported and observed by members on patrol.
Speeding has been the infraction resulting in the bulk of summary offense tickets.
This past weekend over 30 tickets were issued and there were two drivers arrested for Impaired driving.
ILLEGALLY TRANSPORTING CANNABIS
On July 25 two people were charged with illegally transporting cannabis in a vehicle.
Please remember that cannabis and alcoholic products must not be kept within a vehicle where they can be accessed.
DRUG TRAFFICKING
Two people were arrested in relation to a drug trafficking investigation following a traffic stop.
The investigation has been ongoing since March in response to the state of emergency declared by Chief Glasgow, Sipekne’katik.
Seized was a quantity of crack cocaine, cash, and cell phones.
A search warrant was executed a home as well but no additional evidence was located. Both have been released pending future court dates.
DRIVING COMPLAINT
On the afternoon of August 2, members responded to a driving complaint on Highway 102.
The vehicle was located and the driver failed a roadside screening device.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
COMMUNITY AWARENESS
There have been reports of people trespassing at night and of vehicle and property thefts randomly taking place.
Remember to keep your car doors locked, and don’t leave any valuables inside or on your property. Call the detachment if you note any suspicious activity in your neighborhood!
CHECKPOINTS:
Checkpoints for impaired drivers and driver safety are beneficial to keeping our roads safer. We ask drivers to be patient when approaching a checkpoint.
Please don’t try to warn drivers by flashing your headlights (this is illegal) or by posting the location online.
You may think you are doing someone a favor, but you may prevent police from catching an impaired driver, or someone driving illegally, which risks everyone’s safety.
CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC
Please ensure you are paying attention and leaving yourself some safe space when you are in a construction area.
Ensure you follow the signs, and don’t slow down or merge until you enter a construction area.
EXIT 8 TURNING
Stay in your lane. The Exit 8 overpass in Elmsdale is very busy and it’s difficult for drivers exiting the 102 highway to turn left onto Elmsdale Road.
On top of that there are a high number of drivers illegally passing vehicles which are waiting to take the southbound off ramp. There are two single lanes on the overpass, and it is illegal to pass.
Drivers must wait for vehicles to exit, before they proceed.
The illegal passing is dangerous, as you are cutting off traffic that is exiting the on ramp. Please stop passing vehicles that are turning.
