WELLINGTON: Local first responders came together Saturday to show their support and pay tribute as the annual Highway of Heroes ride made its way from 12 Wing Shearwater to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.

The annual ride is a powerful tribute to fallen, serving and missing members of police, fire, EMS and the Canadian military.

Along the route, first responders gathered at several locations throughout East Hants and Colchester County to salute the riders and honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

At Exit 5A near Aerotech, Station 45 Fall River, DC 4 and 45 Alpha were on hand to show their support. At Exit 6, the Halifax Airport exit, members of Station 42 and Station 47 Goffs gathered along the highway.

Further along the route, Milford Fire was also out to show their support for the Highway of Heroes.

The show of support continued through the local area, with firefighters from Enfield, Elmsdale, Lantz, Milford and Shubenacadie among those from East Hants who paid their respects.

From Colchester County, departments including Stewiacke, Brookfield and Truro were also there to support the ride.

For those watching from the roadside, it was a moving sight — emergency vehicles, firefighters and first responders standing together to salute the riders as they passed.

What a great show of support from our local first responders, honouring those who have fallen, those who continue to serve, and those who remain lost.
