MILFORD/SHUBENACADIE: Many different sports were taking place this week as part of N.S. Mi’kmaw Summer Games, hosted by Sipekne’katik First Nation.
There were sports from softball, to darts, to washer toss (which we saw being setup when our Pat Healey did his walk on Wednesday at the Fieldhouse dome), to volleyball, golf, and much more.
The volleyball took place at Hants East Rural High in Milford. The Laker News grabbed some photos from game action between Sipekne’katik and a couple other teams, including Burnt Church, N.B. while we were there on Wednesday.
We also stopped in to cover the softball game at Shubenacadie River Park on Thursday morning between Sipekne’katik and Mi’kmaki Strong.
However, it was forfeited so Sipekne’katik got the win as the opposition did not have enough players.
Organizers have been busy retooling schedules for several events as teams withdrew or did not show up, which occurred in volleyball but they all kept their heads down and focused on making the best out of things and put on a good event for all the athletes.
The Summer Games will wrap up this weekend.
