SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD: The Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman division took centre stage Friday night at Scotia Speedworld as the Bay Equipment Rentals Weekly Racing Series presented the Sportsman 75 along with Kiddie Rides Night.
In the evening’s featured 75-lap Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman race, Cory Leonard drove the No. 74 machine to the unofficial victory, holding off Brentley Pirri, who finished second.
Larry Pace crossed the line third, followed by Darren Hilchie in fourth and Ashley Creelman in fifth.
Lakeview racer Hailey Bland turned in a strong performance in the no. 72, bringing her car home in eighth place in the 75-lap feature.
The race could also have major implications for the Sportsman championship battle.
All three drivers who entered the night atop the point standings encountered issues during the event, meaning Friday night’s results could result in a shake-up when the official standings are released early this week.
Pirri won the opening Sportsman heat, while Sara Thorne took the checkered flag in the second heat before the field returned for the night’s featured Sportsman 75.

While the Sportsman division provided the night’s main attraction, there was plenty of racing throughout the evening at Scotia Speedworld.
In the Traction Mini Stock division, Dylan Partridge took home the victory in the 30-lap feature. Travis Keefe finished second, followed by Chevy MacDonald, Chris McMullin and Billy Wright.
Heat race wins went to Dylan MacMillan of Maitland, Partridge and Mitch Hopkins.
Avery DeCoste captured the win in the 25-lap United Mortgage Alliance Bandolero feature, with Bristol Matthews finishing second and Ben Turple third.
Adlee Lively and Jake Campbell completed the top five. Matthews won the division’s heat race.
In the United Mortgage Alliance Beginner Bandoleros, Nicholas Farrell swept the night’s action, winning both the 12-lap feature and the heat race. Ryder Smith finished second in the feature, followed by Ryan Chisholm, Addison MacLean and Brayden Wood.
The unofficial results from Aug. 28 now set the stage for the release of updated point standings, with particular attention expected to be focused on the Sportsman division following a dramatic night that may have tightened the championship battle.
