The 911 call sent fire crews from Elmsdale; Nine Mile River; HRM Station 40 Dutch Settlement; Lantz; Enfield; and Milford fire to the home on Elmbel Street in Belnan.

Elmsdale Fire Chief Kevin Goodman said one occupant of the home was sent to the QEII hospital in Halifax.

Goodman said that the street was narrow with many homes further up, and power lines were burnt off and laying across the road.

“Upon arrival fire was on second  story with flames coming out various window on that floor,” said Good man. “Flames were knocked down from the exterior and entry was made to the second floor and the remainder knocked down.

“The house has major fire damage to the roof and second floor, and smoke and water damage to the remainder of the house.”

He said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
