New Cargo Facilities at Halifax Airport to Benefit Nova Scotia and our Region

A new air cargo logistics park will be built at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport with support of federal government of $18 million, the Province of Nova Scotia $5 million and HIAA will invest the remaining $13 million.

This addition is a sign of the growing volume and importance of seafood exports from Nova Scotia, especially to China. In 2017, 10,000 tones of seafood worth $220 million was flown out of the airport, accounting for half the value of all export flights. This expansion will enhance transportation infrastructure, increase trade, foster export capacity and create jobs, all to the benefit of Nova Scotia and our region.

Award Encourages Young Innovators – Application Deadline Feb. 28

The Province is offering students an opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills and receive $1,000 to help turn their business ideas into reality.

The province, in partnership with the Business Education Council, is inviting students in grades 6 to 12 in Nova Scotia Public schools to apply for the Minister’s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence. Three awards will be given to students who exhibit entrepreneurial skills in technology, innovation and creativity, and social enterprise.

Students can apply online, individually or as a small group, by submitting an application that includes a budget and a brief pitch presentation, video or business plan. Finalists in each category, chosen by the Business Education Council, will move on to a pitch competition held in the spring. The three winners will be awarded one-thousand dollars each and will be given the opportunity to work with a mentor to advance their proposal. The application deadline is Feb. 28.
