Enfield teen among 20 caught stunting by HRP

DARTMOUTH: A 17-year-old girl is one of 20 motorists Halifax Regional Police nabbed going faster then the posted speed limit during patrols on March 3.

The teen was caught doing 158 kilometres per hour in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 118 near Wright Avenue in Dartmouth.

She was spotted at approximately 1 p.m. travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 118 in Dartmouth near Wright Avenue by a community response officer

The teen was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Shortly afterwards, a 32-year-old Truro man was ticketed for stunting after he was caught going 160 km/.h in a 50 km/h zone on Highway 102 in Halifax, near Bayers Road.

A member of the HRP’s Traffic unit spotted the car and captured the high rate of speed the vehicle was going.

Stunting is a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

In addition, both drivers were suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicles they were driving were seized and will be impounded for seven days.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.

In addition to the two drivers charged with stunting, members of the Traffic Unit charged 18 other drivers for speeding yesterday in areas throughout the region.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement.

HRP said that we all have a role to play in keeping the roads safe. If you see someone driving dangerously, report it to police by calling 911.
