WINDSOR JUNCTION: It’s one of the most anticipated times of the year. The third weekend of August and the Keloose fireworks.

Sadly, this year there will be no Keloose events nor fireworks over Third Lake in Windsor Junction, as a result of provincial health guidelines related to COVID19.

The Keloose Committee released the following statement on July 7.

While many of you have probably already anticipated this announcement, it does not make it any easier to write.

“Keloose 2020 will not be taking place as planned during the third weekend in August.

“Given the COVID-19 Nova Scotia Provincial Health Guidelines around gatherings, we are unable to hold a Keloose event that would satisfy the regulations around maximum crowd counts nor would we be able to effectively enforce social distancing best practices.

“We remain committed to providing a safe and sanctioned gathering for our community, and we are unable to do that right now.

“The Keloose organizing committee, as well as our community members, had been very engaged in the planning of Keloose 2020. The team had exciting ideas on how to reshape our celebration with some new events as well as throwing back to some favourites from yesteryear.

“We will hold on to these great ideas and plan for them in Keloose 2021.

“Even still, our organizing staff believes that as soon as we are allowed to gather in large numbers, we should organize an event to unite our area. My goodness we’ll enjoy it, be it in October, January or beyond.

“We very much believe we can deliver on a Keloose experience as unique as 2020 itself has been, and that our community will enjoy it regardless of the date. We aren’t sure what it will look like, but we will happily organize a party for our people.

“While we did not feel it appropriate to fundraise these past few months we do feel it only right to use this note to remind you that these are the times we need to step up and support our local businesses who so often pitch in to enhance our community events.

“Keloose would not be Keloose without them. As you can, please help them remain whole.

“We thank you all for your continued support of this long standing LWF tradition, and we really look forward to the day we can safely gather together again under the umbrella of Keloose.

“We will surely be in touch soon…..

Jay Cameron and The Keloose Organizing Committee.”
