MAITLAND: RCMP responded to a grass fire on Hwy 236 in Maitland on March 13.

The request for police attendance came from multiple volunteer fire departments who were attending to the incident.

“Upon police arrival, the firefighters had the blaze well in hand,” said S/Sgt. Cory Bushell with East Hants RCMP in Enfield.

The investigation revealed a local resident was burning debris when the wind changed, and the fire got out of hand.

“The resident was cautioned on the spot for the incident,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “No damage was sustained by any structures.”

Residents of East Hants are reminded Nova Scotia burn restrictions are now in effect.
