GRAND LAKE: A familiar face in the Grand Lake/Enfield community received quite the presentation last weekend.

Before a small group of family and friends on the deck of his residence,, (William) “Skeeter” Stephens received the Quilt of Valour. He was nominated by his daughter, Linda, for the recognition.

Many in the two communities would agree he is a hero and deserving of this huge recognition.

The spry 97-year-old was surrounded by several generations of his family. Skeeter served in Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium with the Canadian Artillery.

He later re-enlisted and served in Korea, again with the Artillery.

Skeeter remained in the forces and later served in Cyprus and Egypt on Peacekeeping missions.
