Upper Kennetcook man arrested after fatal collision in Gore

GORE: A 24-year-old man from Upper Kennetcook has been arrested after a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 57-year-old South Rawdon man on Saturday morning, March 28.

East Hants RCMP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 354 in Gore at 10 a.m. Several local fire departments, TIR, and EHS also attended the scene.

“Police arrived on scene and determined that the collision involved two pick up trucks,” said Cpl. Lisa Croteau with N.S. RCMP. “One driver, a 57-year-old man from South Rawdon was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The other driver had fled on foot prior to police arrival but later returned to the scene and was arrested without incident.”

Cpl. Croteau said the man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court on June 6. 

He is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, Operate a Conveyance with Blood Alcohol in excess of 80 mgs% and Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Causing Death.

An RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene and Hwy. 354 was closed but has since been re-opened.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
