MILFORD: Two drivers were charged Oct. 16 with the use of their cellphones while driving after being spotted driving erratically and racing on Highway 104 near the Cobequid Toll Plaza.

The initial call went to Bible Hill RCMP of two vehicles racing on Highway 104 east bound east of the Toll Plaza, said East Hants RCMP S/Sgt. Cory Bushell in the weekly From the Cruiser column.

“A Bible Hill member observed the vehicles but was not in a position to intercept and so the call was passed onto Enfield,” he said.

S/Sgt. Bushell said an officer with the Enfield RCMP detachment located the vehicles on Hwy 102 south bound between exits 9 (Milford) and 8 (Elmsdale).

“Our members spoke to an 18-wheeler driver who witnessed the erratic driving and verified the vehicles involved,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “It was learned that during the erratic driving, the suspect drivers were using their cellular phones to record the incident.

“This was confirmed by the officer and both drivers were charged for use of handheld devices while driving.”
