SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD: Braden Langille is winning as much as a former seven-time NASCAR Champion did early in his career.
Langille, of Shubenacadie, piloted his familiar all white no. 51 machine to the front of the pack and never looked back in the 25-lap feature to take the checkered flag (unofficially) during CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series action on Sept. 11 at Scotia Speedworld. The the race action was held before a max crowd of 250 fans as per public health guidelines.
In the heat race, it was Tyler Hawes taking the win in the no. 72 with Langille third. Sam Rogers was second.
Langille, coming from the rear of the pack for winning the previous week, made a sweeping pass of the no. 7 of Jeff Cruickshank; 20 of Devin Wadden; and 18 of Josh Langille, all in one corner to gain the three spots.
Colton Noble of Nine Mile River, listed as a Young Lion, had an impressive run to follow-up his third-place finish at Speedway 660 last weekend. He wheeled the no. 03 to third place besting Sam Rogers at the line for the spot.
Noble won the Young Lions heat race, which included Gage Gilby of Enfield who battled the 71 of Chase MacKay.
In Beginner Bandolero, it was the no. 39 of Chase Livingstone racing to the victory over the no. 97 of Daniel Vandenberg.
Beaver Bank’s Brett Pashkoski, driving the no. 45, came home third.
Early in the race, Pashkoski tagged by Livingstone but what the driver of the 39 made an incredible save out of turn four and both kept going.
It was Nathan Langille with the Bandit/Outlaw Bando win, but Dawson Noble coming home in the runner-up position, rallying from a troublesome weekend in Fredericton for a nice end cap of the week with the second place finish in the no. 8.
Ayden Christensen of Windsor Junction was first as the top Bandit in the heat race.
He looked to be eyeing a top three spot until the final few laps when he pitted on a caution, out of the blue. It turned out he had no brakes, so he was proactive in hitting pit road to avoid racing without any brakes, a smart move by such a young driver.
After a wreck on the final turn with the 89 of Emily Chisholm, the 22 of Brooke Dowe was able to regroup to get across the line in fourth place.
In the TOURSEC Thunder race, there were just three cars and with the Lightning off till Saturday’s Pro Stock race, it was the Thunder left to race themselves.
Dave Matthews of Nine Mile River won the heat race, but issues in the feature saw him fall from controlling first to a third-place finish.
Wayne Miller took the front end of a weekend of racing that would see the Miller Brothers Racing team race at Scotia then make the trek to Lake Doucette Motor Speedway near Yarmouth on Sunday.
Miller won the heat race, before finishing second to winner Devin Smith in the Sportsman feature.
Alex Johnson of Oakfield led several laps in the heat race with Miller, before finishing in second. In the feature, he came home with fourth in his fast-looking hot rod.
Megan Parrott of Beaver Bank just missed the top five bringing home the no. 1 Pothier hot rod home in sixth place.
Scotia Speedworld will host the Pro Stock Tour for their first race of 2020 on Sept. 12, with the running of the Jim Hallahan 250. Green flag is at 3 p.m. Tickets available online.
On Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, the track near the Halifax Airport will host the final two races of the COVID19 season as they extend the season to the end of the month to allow for a couple more races. Green Flag for those races are 7 p.m.
