FALL RIVER: The developer who was behind a controversial gas station that was to be built on Lake Thomas in Fall River back in 2012 has his eyes back on Fall River.
Ralph Hamilton, of Hampton Holdings, had tried to build on the old Whebby property, until a group of concerned residents pushed back, and eventually a deal of sorts that saw the proposed project next to Inn on the Lake scrapped and the property there left vacant. It was expected to be turned into a park, but no work has been done nor has there been much upkeep to it.
It was thought at the time that the parcel of land where the Dairy Queen is now situated and the Whebby property were swapped between HRM and the developer/Sobeys, allowing the gas station/convenience store to be built next to the Tim’s.
According to a report in AllNovaScotia.com on Sept. 11, a Sobeys gas station, with a car wash, and an A&W are being constructed where the old RaceTrac Gas Station had been located on Hwy 2.
Work is underway by Lindsay Construction to build what is pegged as a $1.5 million development.
The Laker News reached out to Hamilton via email twice for comment and further info, including confirmation of the development, but have yet to hear back as of Sept. 23.
