MILFORD: Thanks to the communities support, the Shumilacke Food Bank is getting almost as much support from a COVID19 impacted Smile Cookie Week as it did during a non-pandemic year in 2019.
On its Facebook page, Milford Tim Hortons announced on Sept. 22 that at the end of the week-long campaign, and thanks to the generous support of East Hants and area residents and businesses they raised $11,000 for the Food Bank.
This also included covering many area schools so all students and staff would be able to enjoy some Smile Cookies.
“I am overwhelmingly happy to share with you all that with the love, support and generosity of this amazing community we have raised 11000 dollars in Smile Cookie sales, which will be all going to the Shumilacke Food Bank,” said Jamie Fillmore. “Again I can not thank everyone enough for the support you have given us that allowed us to achieve this.”
In 2019, the campaign raised more than $14,000. So in a COVID19 impacted year, they were just $3,000 short of that, a pretty good testament to the community.
Fillmore said they would touch base with each school to setup cookie deliveries. The Laker News helped support Dutch Settlement Elementary School and Maple Ridge Elementary in Lantz.
He ended the post by thanking the community again.
“From all of the staff at Milford Tim Hortons we just want to say thank you,” he said.
