FALL RIVER: A Fall River woman spent six days south of the border giving back.

Novalea Pineo, a graduate of Lockview High, and friend Lexi Kerry have spent four days travelling by bus so they can give back at the Habitat for Humanity efforts that are continuing in Beaumont, Texas.

Pineo’s late dad Derek gave back to the community through fundraising for Habitat for Humanity in their town of Nipawin, Sask.

“I wanted to follow in his footsteps,” said Pineo in an email interview from Texas.

The two women are thrilled to be able to lend a helping hand.

It’s an amazing feeling to be able to give to other people and help make their homes livable once again,” said Pineo. “We will be repairing homes and fixing up homes making them livable again.”

The two are in Texas for six days, before heading back home on the bus for another four days. It came about quite quickly as Kerry mentioned the opportunity to Pineo.

Pineo is hoping to leave an impact on those she’s helping.

“I expect to meet a bunch of new people and become apart of something that will change peoples lives forever,” she said.
