TORONTO, ONT.: Winnipeg is the top city in Canada attracting the most renter interest nationwide, according to new Q2 data from RentCafe.com’s Renter Interest Report.
The ranking is based on millions of interactions with Canadian listings on RentCafe.com, offering a real-time snapshot at where apartment-hunters are focusing their attention.
Here are the top 5 most in-demand cities right now:
- Winnipeg, MB, is Canada’s most popular rental market, also ranking #1 for favourited properties
- Moncton, NB, comes in second. After leading last quarter, it’s now seeing three times more page views than it did one year ago
- Kingston, ON, makes the biggest splash this quarter, jumping into the #3 spot as the only newcomer in the top 10
- Edmonton, AB, lands at #4, with renters saving more searches here than in any other city
- Halifax, NS, rounds out the top 5 with a remarkable 158% year-over-year increase in listings added to favourites

In some places, renter interest picked up significantly this quarter:
- St. Catharines, ON, climbed five spots to #17, boosted by more page views and saved searches.
- Nanaimo, BC, jumped four places to #13, with more renters saving personalized searches.
But there are also cities where renter interest cooled off:
- Kitchener, ON, dropped 10 places to #23 as engagement decreased across all metrics.
- Hamilton, ON, also slid 10 spots to #24, in spite of its reputation as a more affordable alternative to Toronto.
