EAST HANTS: The Staff Sgt. at the East Hants RCMP detachment that covers all of the municipality has some advice for residents who are out and about doing their holiday shopping.

“This is the time of year shopping is at its peak and would be thieves are looking for expensive items which can be found in homes, parked cars, and on doorsteps in the case of online shopping,” S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said.

Police want to remind residents to take steps to protect your valuables. Lock your home and vehicles when unattended.

S/Sgt. Bushell said for people to keep presents out of view from the windows of your vehicle or the ground level windows of your home.

“Ensure deliveries to your door are promptly retrieved, especially if your doorstep is visible from the street,” he said. “Theft is normally a crime of opportunity. Don’t allow yourself to be an easy target this holiday season.”
