MOUNT UNIACKE: Here is a look at the calls for the month of October for local volunteer fire departments in East Hants and Stewiacke.

Information is as provided by participating departments in Stewiacke; Nine Mile River; Elmsdale; Enfield; Milford; Mount Uniacke; and  Shubenacadie.

Uniacke & District volunteer firefighters had a busy month with 44 calls and 582 volunteer hours worked. That tally was eld by 21 medical assist calls.

The firefighters also heard the “sounds of their people” three times for alarms activation (Carbon Monoxide); five power lines down/arcing/on fire; three fire investigations; three brush fires; two MVC’s; two alarm activations (other); two mutual aid requests; one structure fire; one fire alarm activation.

For Stewiacke Fire, they had just two calls during September. One was for an MVC and the other a residential fire alarm activation.

Milford fire was called to 12 emergencies in September; eight of these calls were to Mutual Aid (MA) departments.

Firefighters responded to mutual aid calls in Shubenacadie (four times) and Indian Brook (four times).

The department was dispatched by colleagues at Valley Communications to three Motor Vehicle Collisions; three Fire Alarms; two Lines Arcing; one Stand By; one Grass Fire; one Woods Fire; and one Electrical Fire.”

Firefighters with Nine Mile River fire had four calls led by three mutual aid requests and one mvc call.

Elmsdale fire had 32 calls in the month, with 19 medical assists as the leading call they heard. They were also paged for six alarm activations; three fire calls; two mvc’s; one power line fire; and one other.

For Enfield Fire, they heard the tones on their pagers 17 times in September, led by six alarm activations. Firefighters also responded to four medical assists; three power line fires; two brush fires; two MVC’s; one vehicle fire; and one mutual aid request.

Shubie fire had 16 calls in September, led by three public assists and three alarm activations.

Other calls were one medical assist; one single vehicle mvc; one wires down; one gas detection call; and six mutual aid calls, five to Indian Brook and one to Milford.

There was no info from Lantz fire or Kennetcook fire for the month of September.
