MEH awards District Recreation grants to various community groups

NINE MILE RIVER: The Municipality of East Hants issued almost $100,000 in District Recreation Fund grants to a variety of community groups across the municipality in March.

The DRF’s were approved by council during it’s March council meeting. They totalled $99,250.

Among the organizations receiving the funding support included:

Off-Leash East Hants Society for $4,500 so they can build a gravel walking path; notice board; and for storage and garbage bins.

Nine Mile River Trails Association $14,317 so they can replace boardwalks, drainage, stairs to river, new section of trail and wildlife mural.

East Hants Sportsplex $8,288 – to upgrade dome lights to LED.

Corridor Minor Baseball Association $31,149 for field upgrades, light installs, and bleacher replacement at Enfield Legion.

Shubenacadie Canal Commission $8,750 to build wildlife viewing platform and toe rails on existing boardwalk at Lock 6.

EH Horne School Preservation Society $9,674 for rear building windows and flooring in daycare

Milford Recreation Association $10,126 so they can resurface trail and playground, and water system upgrades.

Shubenacadie Community Development Association $2,350 so they can do trail resurfacing at Rex McCoul Park and get a generator for watering park, flower beds and hanging baskets

Hants North Baseball Association $6,038 to allow for a scoreboard installation.

Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia $4,059 for upgrade to the road and to create small parking lot and signage at Meek Road access.

Two more DRF applications were received and will be considered by council next week at the May meeting.
