LOWER SACKVILLE: NDP MLA Paul Wozney made the following statement:
“I understand that as an elected official my words really matter and that’s why I’ve removed the post.
I want to be clear that I did not intend to encourage or condone violence in any way — that is never acceptable.
In the last year, we’ve seen the government forced to walk back some of their cruellest cuts when Nova Scotians spoke up, protested responsibly and treated one another with respect.
These are the actions I support and wanted to encourage but my comments were careless.
I apologize for the harm and distress they have caused.”

HALIFAX: NDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement:
“The Nova Scotia NDP unequivocally denounces violence or the suggestion of violence in civic life.
MLA Wozney has removed the post and apologized for his careless words. We have spoken about his serious error in judgment, and he acknowledges the harm that he has caused.
He understands that there are consequences to his words and he has been removed as the NDP Whip.
Respectful, peaceful protest and civic engagement are essential parts of a healthy democracy and strengthen our province. Nova Scotians have proven that we can stay true to these values and speak up about our differences and frustrations while taking care of each other and holding governments accountable.”

PC’s call for action by NDP Leader Chender over social media post by MLA
HALIFAX: NDP Leader Claudia Chender needs to hold one of her MLAs accountable for calling for France-style riots in Nova Scotia and Canada.
The riots in France have led to a curfew being issued in Paris and French police have estimated that 3,000 businesses and public buildings have been damaged or looted. Residents described the aftermath like they just had a war.
In a social media post yesterday in response to a remedy on Bill 148, Sackville-Cobequid NDP MLA Paul Wozney said: “Don’t leave it to the courts. Learn from France. Own the streets. Shut government down. Grind the province/country to a halt… It’s the only ‘direct’ line to worker justice
MLA Damian Stoilov said it’s outrageous to have an Official Opposition MLA call for violence and anarchy.
Wozney is the NDP critic for Ethics and Accountability, Education, Labour, Public Service Commission and Advanced Education as well as the NDP Caucus Whip.
“Claudia Chender needs to be a leader and show that her party does not support vandalism, looting, arson and violent clashes as the answer to political disagreements,” added MLA Stoilov.
