WAVERLEY: Mother Nature may have forced Christmas on the Green to move inside to the Waverley Legion, but the Christmas spirit was bountiful on Dec. 11.

Christmas on the Green, organized by the volunteers with the Waverley Community Association (WCA), was scheduled to be held outside at the Village Green, located adjacent to Station 41 Waverley Fire Department.

However, a day before organizers made the call to move to its backup venue for many WCA held events, the Waverley Legion.

That move didn’t seem to deter people as families with young kids showed up to take part in the event, which included a small craft sale, games of fun, and musical entertainment, including that from Joyful Sounds and other musicians.

One of those featured perforemrs was the talented Ian Sherwood.

Of course, the stars of an hour of the two-and-a-half hour performance was Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, kids had to sit on a bench in front of the two from the North Pole for a photo and to talk to them. They had help from Santa’s favourite Waverley elf, Trish Polley to tell Santa what they wanted on Christmas Day.

District 1 (Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley) HRM Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon was among the volunteers from the community who helped out look after several of the kids games.

Here are some more photos from the event as snapped by us at The Laker News when we were there:

However, not everyone was happy to see Santa, as this little one showed and we snapped the photo of.

And before long Santa and Mrs. Claus had to be on their way, to see more boys and girls before the big trip on Dec. 25.
