FALL RIVER: The grand opening of the new Fall River All-Weather Turf Field was held on Monday night.

On hand were members of the Turf Field Committee; MP Braedon Clark (whose predecessor Darrell Samson played a key role in getting federal funding for the project); MLA and Advanced Education Minister Brian Wong; and Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon; and former MLA Bill Horne. In the crowd were athletes who are using the new field now.

Deagle Gammon’s first motion upon being elected came in Nov. 2020 getting the project before HRM, who had to give its stamp of approval in order to send it to the province and feds for funding support.

The other two levels were ready to come on board for the project.

It was ironic that the grand opening was done in the rain, as when the group held the ground breaking with shovels in the ground it was snowing.
