ELMSDALE: East Hants RCMP wants to remind dump truck operators they can be charged for an insecure load.

The reminder comes after a dump truck lost a portion of its load at the lights by the Elmsdale Shopping Plaza on Hwy 214 on March 16.

S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said East Hants RCMP received numerous calls to the road hazard.

“The debris required vehicles to drive around it,” he said in a police brief sent in as part of his weekly From the Cruiser column. “Work crews quickly descended on the mess and cleaned it up.”

He wanted to remind drivers it’s a chargeable offence under the Motor Vehicle Act to operate a vehicle with an insecure load.

“Drivers can be fined in Nova Scotia if something being transported falls from their vehicle,” he said. “Always make sure your load is well secured.”

The displaced load was quickly cleaned up and motorists went about their day without any further avoidance in the area.
